Waste Management in
Nepal
Given the
unsystematic dumping of wastes in
Kathmandu, on open spaces and next
to banks of rivers of Kathmandu, the
contribution of improper waste
disposal, not only adds to pollution
problem in Kathmandu, but also leads
to health hazards to community
dwellers and impact on the
environment.
WATO
considers efficient and
environmentally sound waste
management and recycling as
key to improving the
environment, minimizing
pollution problem, while at
the same time enhancing
knowledge of people in this
aspect through awareness
raising programs.

Educating and Empowering
Children and Youth
Children
and youth are the hope of
tomorrow. They need to be
given an equal opportunity
and an active role to play
in the communities and its
development work. WATO Nepal
has been involving
communities, in particular,
children and youth in all
its community development
work. We are interested in
undertaking larger scale
projects with focus on
educating and empowering
children and youth and
eventually help young people
develop self-respect,
confidence in themselves,
and hope for the future.

Tree Planting
Increase
greenery in and around communities:
Rapid deforestation and growing
construction in towns and
communities means that fewer green
areas remain, thereby resulting in
an overall detrimental impact on the
environment. WATO is keen to change
this, by planting trees- across
roads, in parks, around major town
areas and any place where it can
make a positive change not only in
terms of enhancing natural beauty,
but also improving upon the overall
environment in the area.
|
Protection of ancient
and historical heritage
sites of Nepal
Many historical sites
such as ancient temples
and structures are being
neglected and are in
various stages of
degradation,
particularly due to
modern construction. We
believe that protection
of such sites of
historical and cultural
significance enhances
the richness of
communities and
societies.

Preservation of Open Spaces
Preservation, development
and utilization of open
spaces by developing
recreational facilities:
When urbanization and
increasing population
pressure is leading to
encroachment of open spaces,
the impact directly hampers
the way of life of
communities to enjoy open
spaces. WATO is interested
in community beautification
and environmental protection
of open spaces through
development of gardens,
parks and community centers
and such recreational
facilities in open spaces.
